Hey everyone!
Just wanted to introduce myself and share a little about what I
have been up to during quarantine. I also wanted to share how I have reflected
on my life since quarantine began.
My name is Josue, but I go by Josh. This is my first semester at
Cal Poly Pomona as a Finance Major. I transferred from Citrus College where I
earned my associate degree in Business Administration. I used to work as a
tutor for Citrus College and currently work as a cashier at a grocery store in
Glendora.
For the most part, I have spent a large amount of time at home
with my family and at work. Before quarantine started, I was in my last
semester at Citrus College. Luckily, I was only taking one astronomy class, so
I was able to juggle two jobs. I was working as a statistics tutor at my
community college and working at Ralph's as a cashier. I was optimistic about
the future as I had recently been accepted into Cal Poly Pomona. Seeing that my
effort in school had paid off was an encouraging feeling.
When COVID-19 was officially declared a pandemic and many
businesses and schools began to shut down, I did not think that the transition
would affect me like it has.
I was let go of my tutoring position, but I was given more and
more hours at my other job. Since then, I have realized how much I miss my job
as a tutor. I realized that I am passionate about helping people. I also miss
seeing and talking to new people every day.
As a result of the pandemic, I have spent a lot more time at home.
This has meant that I am able to watch the shows that I have always wanted to
watch, but never had the time because of other life obligations. Some
of the show I binged were: Game of Thrones, Dark, Nathan For You, and Wilfred.
I assume that many of you have heard of Game of Thrones, but I feel that the
last three shows I mentioned do not get enough attention. I would highly recommend
watching ‘Dark’ on Netflix; it blew my mind when I first watched it.
The transition from community college to a university was not what I had expected. It has forced me to be even more on top of my school duties and tasks because we are not seeing people in person to remind us of what we have to do.
The pandemic has affected people
in many ways. Some have lost loved ones because of Covid-19. I am lucky enough
to not be one of those people and my heart goes out to those who have been negatively
affected by the pandemic.
Over the past months, the world
has felt chaotic. As s college student, I feel that I always have my foot on the
gas and often forget to slow down and look around occasionally. The pandemic
has reminded me that life can be fragile, and I should not take my loved ones
for granted. I am so grateful to my family and friends who have supported me
throughout my life.
Let me know some of things you have
done over quarantine and/or how you have reflected on your own life values
during quarantine.
Hey, Josh! I also transferred from a community college this semester so I get where you're coming from...it's been so strange being exclusively online for the whole semester!
ReplyDeleteI also worked A LOT during quarantine, I'm in food service and we definitely took a hit when it first started but now we're busier than ever. I also watched some great shows and Nathan For You was one of them! He is just too funny lol
Thank you so much for sharing, I know this is a really difficult time but I'm hoping we're near the end!
To me, the quarantine did not change that much. Beside the fact that I save gas money, due to school being online. The only thing I had reflected on, is just how I taken for granted how I was in community college. Community college, I mainly screwed around, but now that I am in Cal Poly I learn that I actually need to try in class and actually read the textbook to pass the class. In community college, I rarely read any of the textbook and just pass class with a C or B.
ReplyDeleteHey Josh! I feel you on missing out on your old job. I used to work as a receptionist for a private gym but decided to leave because of the pandemic. Ever since then, I’ve fell off my usual workout/meal prep routine and have gained serious quarantine weight but I am slowly reshaping a new routine for me to adjust to—especially since school is in session.
ReplyDeleteQuarantine surprisingly helped me focus on myself more and made me learn how to be comfortable with being alone. Of course it isn't always the best but I'd like to try to see the good in things when the world has gotten bad.
ReplyDeleteQuarantine actually has not been that bad for me since I am a introvert. Also I miss my close friends, staying at home has allowed me to reflect and allow me to focus on the things that I need to get done.
ReplyDeleteHello Josh, after reading your article the pandemic has also affected me. I work at a grocery store and I went from working 30 hours a week to 48+ hours a week. It was terrible, on top of that I was in the middle of transferring from Mt. Sac to CPP. Hang in there, it will be over soon.
ReplyDeleteWith all this pandemic going on, it has been really hard for me as well. It is also my first year as a transfer student, I was hoping to start fresh again in a new environment, but also to meet other new people. Let's hope that things get better!
ReplyDeleteHey Josh, with this whole thing going on, I do agree with you that this whole situation is just a complete mess. I transferred from PCC last semester and I was hoping to getting a fresh new experience here at CPP, but it has been ruined for me by this quarantine.
ReplyDeleteI just transferred to CPP this semester as well. During my last two semesters at community college, I enrolled in online classes only, so I'm pretty used to this. With that being said, I really do miss going to class on campus, and I was super excited to explore CPP and meet new people. Being in quarantine has made me realize how much I took going to school for granted.
ReplyDeleteDuring quarantine I think I have learned to value certain things that I assumed couldn't really be taken from me before . Just basic human interaction, I guess. I was expecting my first semester at Cal Poly to be a great interactive experience but it ended up being Zoom and us literally digitally connecting. Its okay, but not what I pictured.
ReplyDeleteHey! its been a stuggle for me to adjust to virtual learning as well especially at a higher level of education than community college
ReplyDeleteHello, I was aloe excited for the CPP. but this Covid -19 situation change everything. I really want to visit the CPP and meet new peoples. I hope everything will be get back to soon.
ReplyDeleteHello Josue! Thank you for sharing. I too am grateful to have the chance at slowing down to remember whats important in life. Quarantine has been tough but binge watching shows can be a nice break you don't normally get to have.
